CARING FOR STONE
Natural Stone is one of the hardest and most durable surfaces available. Proper care and maitenance can assure that its original elegance and maximum beauty will be preserved over time.
STONE CARE BASICS
- Blot up spills immediately using an absorbent cloth - never wipe or smear.
- Clean surfaces periodically with a mild detergent or a neutral, pH-balanced cleaner specially formulated for use on stone. Rinse the surface thoroughly after cleaning with a soap solution and dry with a soft cloth.
- Be especially careful with common foods and drinks containing acids that could etch or dull the stone surface. Some examples of acidic foods are: orange juice, vinegar, wine, tomato products, mustard and many soft drinks.
- Also avoid the use of scouring powders and creams, bleach or ammonia and acidic cleansers that might damage the surface of the stone.
- Avoid setting hot pans or dishes directly on the stone.
- Sealing: The Marble Institute of America has issued a policy statement that most granite countertops do not need to be sealed. If homeowners clean their countertops after each meal, they will rarely, if ever, have staining problems with the stone.
